Toast

(looks like George Harrison)

The handwriting in on the wall. Humans will be going extinct.  We were an interesting experiment that lacked the foresight to make it in the long haul. We will not have lived even as long as the dinosaur. The up side of all this - the planet will survive. She may go through some tough times again - all hot and all cold or all toxic but in the end she will come out of it purged of humans.  Maybe a few places will be a tad radioactive for a bit longer.

As our solar system moves out from the main galactic arm, we will be more distant from any supposed last minute rescue from another race that may be out there watching as we cook, freeze and gasp.

When the earth recovers in several hundred thousand years, will she have enough time to evolve another sapient being?  Not likely.  The sun will fizzle out before anything has a chance to count to 3.

How much longer do we have?  Good question.  I think it will get real bad for us real soon.  Should we calling this part of history the "End Times"?  Whatever!

Now the hard questions of how should I personally prepare for these tough times? Plus, I am 60 so I may be around for perhaps the next 25-30 yrs.  How ugly will things get in that time?  Do I need to travel to all four corners of the planet to get MY fill of her majesty and beauty? Nahh - I can see it all on my wide screen tv, minus the annoying shots.  Should I sell everything and move as far away from civilization so as not to perhaps come face to face with sickness, greed, lawlessness, insurrection and madness? Nahh - what would be the point?  Do I give into my baser nature and float away binging on the seven deadly sins? Nahh - mostly because I hate hangovers and feeling all used up.

The thing is, I have NOW.  I could be squished by a semi later today on my way to Montreal.  So I will ponder what is important to me and go from there.  Family is my priority.  Making the most of the time we all have together.  Laughing, sharing, holding and loving will be my reason to continue.  I will treat others with the same reverence I would have for any endangered species.  We (humans) climbed out of the ooze to accomplish such amazing feats.  We know we are more.  Will that 'more' continue?  The romantic in me says,"YES" !
